About
the software
Ceart is a powerful
standalone software package designed to help correct both grammatical
and spelling mistakes in the Irish language such as "séimhiú"
and "urú" issues on nouns.
Developed by Irish technology consultancy
Cruinneog in conjunction with
Kevin Scannell, it is aimed primarily at the rapidly growing number
of translators working with Irish. The package is also a
sophisticated resource for students, learners and professionals. A
collection of commonly used phrases integral to the package enables
users to quickly standardise texts, and the grammar and spell-checking
features boost productivity by rapidly highlighting questionable words
and phrases.

Having successfully completed its pilot phase, the software is now
available for the Apple Mac OS X platform and a Windows version
is currently in development. Ease of use has been a key goal of the
Ceart project, and its user interface has been designed by
Cruinneog so that text from any other software application can simply
be "copy and pasted" into the Ceart window. Grammar and spell
checking is then carried out by a powerful grammar engine developed by
Kevin Scannell. The latest version of this engine recognizes over
360,000 words and 1500 grammatical rules. The standalone approach
ensures that Ceart will work side by side with a wide variety of
software packages – from Microsoft Office applications to e-mail
programs.
Passages of the text which appear to be incorrect are identified by the
grammar engine and this information is shown to the user in a series of
informative windows. The phrases or words which are suspect are
highlighted and a concise message summarises the problem.
